BURSTING INTO
FLAME

2024

London, a city of infinite promises and relentless trials, transforms each step into a simultaneous opportunity and test. The city’s rhythm, insatiable appetites, and expectations can be exhausting—a whirlwind of activity, its purpose often elusive. Amidst such pressure, one might feel on the verge of burning out. Yet, within this state of body and mind, new meanings and strengths are more likely to be crystallised. Under the scrutiny of this metaphorical flame, customary behaviours and conditioned reflexes transmute, receding from influential forces to mere backdrops.

Without unease, art would degrade.

There’s no art in comfort.

Burning into Flame delves into realms of confession, transformation, and self-representation within the urban vortex. The exhibition invites viewers to explore the tensions between the public and the private, self and city, seen and unseen, art and surroundings. Transcending the traditional showcase of artworks, we’ve challenged artists to share a bit of themselves through simple confessions, creating a dialogue between their creations and their authentic selves. These admissions need not be profound—even simple food preferences suffice. For is it not in the conveyance of insights through humour—sometimes delightfully silly—or through self-deprecating irony, that we glimpse the true essence of creative spirit?

Let something new begin.
